World Television Day: Agastya Jain Says Reach of TV is Unparalleled
Agastaya Jain, the writer, creator, and creative producer of the TV show Bas Itna Sa Khwaab, emphasizes the immense reach of television. Agastaya, who has previously worked on projects like Meri Durga, Tu Chal Pudhe, Radha Krishna, and Qayamat Ki Raat, believes that creating the right character can ensure widespread love and admiration.
“The reach of TV is unparalleled. If you can craft the right character and insight, even if you don’t know who all and in which corners of the world are watching, you’re surely impacting lives and livelihoods. However, it’s also challenging because you have to churn out content every day,” he says.
He adds, “Shows such as KBC or Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma are prime examples. These are the longest-running and most impactful shows. The way people connect with them is unbelievable.”
Speaking about the future of television, he notes, “TV isn’t going anywhere. It just needs to keep evolving and avoid sticking to the same formula. Interestingly, web platforms are now creating ‘TV+’ content to survive and engage audiences for longer periods, which is ironic in itself.”
When asked about his favorite TV shows, he shares, “I used to love Shanti and Malgudi Days. What brilliant stories they were! The performances were top-notch. Recently, I enjoyed Katha on Sony. Though it was adapted, it was done beautifully. Stories about human relationships are always my favorite picks!”
